Croydon Food Festival is a great success!
Croydon Food Festival has now concluded, after three weeks of foodie fun which has seen large crowds descend on the area.
From gourmet cooking demonstrations and international food markets to healthy lunch menus and vegan food, the programme was stuffed full of free events and activities. There were also specialist food markets that took place across the borough and live cooking demonstrations were hosted in Surrey Street Market and Whitgift Centre.
Footfall figures show that there were 2,576,113 visitors to the area in September, the month in which the Food Festival launched. This is an increase of over 2.5% on the same month last year.
With people all up and down the country tightening their purse strings, an increase in the number of visitors – no matter how small – is good news for local businesses, and testimony to the draw of the Food Festival.
Croydon Business Improvement District (BID) delivered the festival in partnership with key sponsors, supporters and community groups - including Croydon Advertiser, Whitgift Centre, Waitrose and Croydon Enterprise to deliver more than sixty free events and activities between 19 September to 4 October 2009.
“Croydon Food Festival has been a brilliant couple of weeks and I’m delighted that the events have been so well received in the community,” said Ros Morgan, Croydon Town Centre Business Improvement District Manager. “We’ve had big crowds, good weather, excitement and food aplenty - it’s been a feast of fun for everyone involved. Next up we’ve got our Christmas Festival in the town centre, and I’m really looking forward to inviting everyone down to shop till they drop in Croydon this Christmas.”
