Markets
Markets in Focus

There were a series of markets that took centre stage in the 2008 Croydon Food Festival, bringing a different taste of cuisine from around the globe.
Each week for four days, a different guest market came to North End with a mouth-watering array of goodies available throughout October.
The Black History Food Fayre took place between 2nd to the 5th October. An Afro-Caribbean market was on offer for visitors to Croydon in celebration of black food culture to mark Black History Month.
The Team Fantastique Continental Food Market took place between the 16th to the 19th October.
The traditional produce of mainland Europe cames to town offering locals a truly ‘fantastique’ foodie experience.

The Continental Chocolate Village Market took place between 16th to 19th October. European sweet goods were the order of the day here, in this wonderful continental chocolate market. There was also a whole host of sweet treats available from all across Europe.
The Keen Green Food Market came to visit Croydon Town Centre on 23rd to 26th October and was a great success. Home grown food, organic produce and other ecological goodies were on offer and anyone with a preference for environmentally friendly shopping, cooking and eating came along to this fabulous eco-friendly market right in the heart of Croydon.
Surrey Street Market
There were several key activities and family events that took place in Surrey Street Market.
Activities included a donut eating challenge, a Chocolate Tasting Evening, a Cheese and Ale Event and a cooking demonstration from food guru Polly Tyrer.
There was also a special parking offer throughout October (offering drivers a £5 24hr parking rate) at Surrey Street Q Park.
Free recipe cards were given to the public by stall holders, providing useful suggestions on how to make good use of fresh fruit and vegetables from the market.
Weekly special offers were also available in the market and readers of the Croydon Advertiser Newspaper could use coupons to collect a bag of free fruit or vegetables, helping to encourage healthy eating.
The Surrey Street Museum was also set up in Whitgift Centre Upper Mall and opened on selected days in October to the public.
Special thanks to all of the Surrey Street Market Traders, organisers and participants from the specialist markets as well as local businesses: Roti Masters, Spice Express, Vintage, Murray's Meat Market or Green Dragon who offered special offers as part of the Discount Card promotion.
