FROM FOOD TO CHRISTMAS
Monday 10/11/08 17:00

Following on from the success of the Croydon Food Festival, Croydon Town Centre is now preparing for the big Christmas lights switch on which is taking place on Saturday 15th November.
The day's activities will commence from 11.30am. Dame Widow Twankey will host performances on from local artists and bands including steel pan band, Pandemonium and the Jive Aces. Dancers showing their moves on the day will be Aspara Arts Bollywood dancers, Ceroc Kent and the Hip Hop Move It Aside dance crew and the stilt walkers will certainly keep shoppers entertained throughout the day.
At 5pm, the Mayor of Croydon will switch on the lights outside Allders in North End and then, at 5.15pm celebrated actor Brian Blessed (who is starring as Captain Hook in Panto at Fairfield Halls this winter) will switch on the Croydon Town Centre lights.
Once the town is lit up, the public are invited to join the Croydon Clocktower GLOW Magic Lantern Parade from North End to the Queen's Gardens. Dozens of children will follow the parade holding glowing lanterns. A performance from Upswing Aerial will feature stunning high rise acrobatics and community arts group Same Sky will provide a beautiful fire garden finale.
This will officially launch the Christmas events programme, which is being coordinated by Croydon Town Centre BID in partnership with other town centre businesses.
Croydon BID events are planned every Saturday from 15th November through to Saturday 20th December and it all promises to be a joyous occasion.
